The 6 Tastes and Simple Examples

As we all know, foods have various tastes and we can interpret them very differently. Some can be sweet while some are salty. They can even be changed when seasons or extra flavors are added. With that being said, there are actually six main tastes that exist that make up the foods we eat. They are:
  • Sweet
  • Salty
  • Sour
  • Pungent
  • Astringent
  • Bitter
These are a few examples of each taste.

Sweet

Sweet foods: Cashews, peanuts, cinnamon, raisins, sweet potatoes, and apples.

Sour

Sour foods: Lemons and oranges

Salty

Salty foods: salt, seasoning salt, pretty much most seasonings are salty.

Bitter

Bitter foods: Cocoa, coffee beans, spinach

Astringent

Astringent foods: Pomegranate

Pungent

Pungent foods: onions, peppers

Now it's your turn. Make a list of your favorite foods and see if you can figure out their natural tastes. Comment your findings.
